Bye
Bye is the Run scored by the team when the ball has not hit by the batsman nor the ball has touched the batsman body.
Bail
A small wood piece placed on top of stumps.
Bat
A special type of wood with handle to hit the ball while playing cricket.
Batsman
The players in the cricket match who tries to strike the ball.
Batting average
It is the total runs gained by the player divided by the no of times the player is out.

Bowl
"It is an act of delivering the ball to the Batsman in cricket intending to hit the wicket.
Bowled
The ball delivered by the bowler strikes the wicket irrelevant of whether the ball has touched the bat, glove, or any part of the batsman before striking the wicket.
Bowler
One who delivers the ball towards the Batman in Cricket.
Catch
Is to hold back the ball in the hands of any of the fielder that was striked by the batsman in air before it touches the ground..
Century
Is a score of 100 runs made by a batsman in a single innings.
Crease
The line drawn on the cricket ground in front of the wickets, where the batsman stands and tries to hit the ball.
Four
It is the batman’s shot that reaches the boundary after touching the ground.
Googly
This is the type of the delivery of the ball by the right-arm leg spin bowler where the ball spins from the off to leg into the Right handed batsman when compared to the normal leg break that spins from the leg to the off side, away from a right-handed batsman.
Leg side
Is on the left side for the Right –handed Batsman and Is on the Right side for the Left –handed Batsman with respect to the batsman facing the Bowler.
No ball
Here are the few cases in which the ball is considered as no ball.
- If the bowler lands his front foot outside the popping crease then the ball is considered as a no ball.
- When the bowler tries to throw a ball instead of bowling.
- When the ball delivered by the bowler does not touch the ground and reaches the batsman above his waist(in case of Fast bowler). or reaches above the height of the shoulders in the case of a slow bowler.
- If the ball bounces twice or sweeps along the ground before it reaches the popping crease at the batting end.
On side
Is on the left side for the Right –handed Batsman and Is on the Right side for the Left –handed Batsman with respect to the batsman facing the Bowler.
Off side
Is on the Right side for the Right –handed Batsman and Is on the Left side for the Left –handed Batsman with respect to the batsman facing the Bowler.
Gully
It is an Area of the field in the cricket ground that has its position between the slips and point.
Slips
One or more fielders who play on the off side and stand behind or next to the wicket keeper mainting about 5-10 yds distance from each other eager to catch the Batsman out.
Point
It is the position of the fielder who stands on the off side about 15yd from the Batsman
Hit wicket
The batsman is out when he hits his own wickets with his bat or his body while trying to hit the ball or when trying to set off in making his run.
Howzat
This is the phrase used by the fielders to make an appeal to the umpire that the batsman is out.
Innings
It is the time period during the cricket match when one team is at bat.
LBW
The batsman is considered to be out when his legs or another part of the body interrupted the ball without first striking the bat or the hand holding the bat.
Miss field
Failure in proper fielding of the ball on the cricket ground which may result in the batsman taking an other run
Over
Is the set of Six balls delivered by the bowler from one end of the cricket pitch.
Over throw
Is an act where the fielder throws the ball back to the infield where it is failed to be collected and moves on to the outfield in the opposite way. It is during this that the Batsman scores an extra run
Pad up
They are the soft thick covers that is put on the legs to protect the player from the ball during the cricket match
Pitch
Area in the cricket field in between the two sets of stumps.
Run out
The batsman is termed as run out when the fielder directly hits the wicket before the batsman reaches the popping crease while the ball is in Play
Run
Runs are scored by the batsman by striking the ball and running between the wickets up and down the pitch without either of the batsman getting out
Sledging
Insulting the batsman especially by using the abusive comments by the fielders who are close in position to the batsman with the intention of disturbing the concentration of the batsman while facing the ball from the bowler.
Spinner
A bowler who delivers the ball with a spin that usually deceives the batsman.
Stand
The period of time during which two batsmen are playing together in a cricket match , or the runs scored by both of them.
Stumps
The three vertical placements to support the bails
Sixer
Six runs are scored if the batsman hits the ball in air to cross the boundary line without touching the ground.
Wide ball
If the ball is too wide or too high for the batsman to reach and strike the ball then it is termed as the Wide ball.The team is awarded a run and an extra ball
Wicket
The two bails and the stumps to support the bails form the wicket. There are two wickets on the either side of the pitch.
Wicket keeper
Is the Player on the fielding side who wears gloves and positions himself behind the batsman wicket .Normally receives the ball from the fielder when the ball is no longer in play after the batsman had striked the ball from the wicket. He can also make the batsman out by tapping the bails off when the batsman feet are out of the crease with the ball in his hand.
